We are building a community based on accurate scientific information on ADHD in children and adults. We believe in a holistic approach to ADHD treatment. While medication can be helpful in severe cases, our community is about the following 5 pillars of treatment/management, outside of pharmaceuticals:
Professional ADHD therapy offers structured and personalized strategies to address the unique challenges posed by the disorder. It plays a crucial role in improving behavioral, cognitive, and emotional functioning. Therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy provide individuals with the tools to modify negative behavior patterns, develop coping strategies, and alter detrimental thought processes.
Some newer, but thoroughly tested protocols such as neurotherapy are remarkably effective in ADHD treatment. Neurotherapy and specifically neurostimulation, is a drug-free, non-invasive treatment that uses technology to improve brain functions. The results are well documented by authorities such as Harvard, Stanford, and the Mayo Clinic.
Regular physical activity is a great way to burn excess energy, improve concentration, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. Exercise releases neurotransmitters like dopamine (ADHD people have lower levels of dopamine) to help with attention and clear thinking. Exercise also improves blood flow to the brain, improves executive function and eases stress and anxiety!
Sleep and nutrition play a vital role in the effective management of ADHD. Adequate, restful sleep is essential as it helps in improving concentration, mood, and overall cognitive function, aspects often challenged by ADHD. Establishing a regular sleep schedule and creating a calming bedtime routine can significantly enhance sleep quality. Similarly, a balanced, nutritious diet low in processed foods supports brain health and can influence behavior and energy levels. Some studies suggest that certain food additives and high sugar intake may exacerbate hyperactivity in some individuals. Thus, incorporating whole foods, lean proteins, and complex carbohydrates, while limiting processed foods and sugar, can contribute to better overall management of ADHD symptoms.
This is a pivotal strategy in managing ADHD. Providing predictability and avoiding chaos helps the ADHD suffer. Tools like planners, calendars and to-do lists are essential for people with ADHD. Also, limiting distraction and screen time is valuable.
